SIMPLE GUIDE TO SHIBORI TECHNIQUE, CAPPING - digital download
I’ve created a simple guide featuring step-by-step instructions on how to create patterns using capping, a Japanese Shibori technique. I have taken some liberties with the traditional techniques, using materials and tools I am familiar with.
Shibori is a Japanese term for fabric that is resist-dyed to make a pattern. The verb root of the word emphasizes the action performed on the cloth, the process of manipulating the fabric to create a pattern. A pattern is made by binding, stitching, folding, or compressing fabric, and then dyeing it. I recommend experimenting and importantly having fun!
